20 years ago a friend introduced me to the teachings of Jim Rohn.  What a great adventure to adopt some of Jim’s philosophy’s.  Jim Rohn taught all about getting a personal philosophy of life.  He taught us to take pictures and journal and to mind and cultivate life.  He said, “An apple a day, what if it is true?”  He asked a lot of questions that way.  It turns out it is true as is so much more that Jim taught.   He was a life philosopher.

What Does Tony Robbins Have In Common With Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and Dr. Denis Waitley?

Could it just be that Robbins, Peale, and Waitley are great motivators?  That would be too obvious, but you will figure out the answer shortly.

As A Man Thinketh haw a great message for everyone.  It was written by James Allen in 1902 and is based on his meditations on Proverbs 23:7.  Your mind is like a garden, it will bring forth.  If you cultivate it, it will produce good results, results that you want.  If you let anything grow then your results will be the same as if you let your garden grow – you will get weeds.

It is important that you cultivate your vital thoughts.  This is a law that is fixed you reap what you sew.  “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.”  There is great insight to be gained from doing your own meditation on that verse.

Circumstances grow out of your thoughts, when you sincerely seek to remedy the problems in your character, which was produced by your thoughts, you will see a rapid improvement in your circumstances.  Right thinking draws you to a life of prosperity and achievement.  Keep your mind on the things you seek.  This is another statement of the law of attraction.  The book contains all the elements of the law and it’s study will help you advance in that study.

Allen talks of mental harmony where your mind and thoughts are not torn by competing ideas.  When we allow ideas to be planted by others, by media, then we are not being good gardeners and may even become share croppers with others controlling us by the messages we allowed them to implant.

Limiting beliefs plague everyman and as we cultivate our thoughts we need to examine these.  Beliefs can both protect us and hold us back.  That is why we must understand why we hold our beliefs and should we keep them..

Allen says: “A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”  That is very clear and one of the main themes of the book. Our thoughts bring our environment and our environment becomes a looking glass into our minds.  If we cannot make ourselves do the things we think we should do then we need to look deeper in to what is being planted in our subconscious.  We have to cultivate the beliefs that will cause us to take action in the ways we want, in the ways that will benefit us.

The answer to the question about what Robbins has in common with Peale, and Waitley is that they were all greatly influenced by “As A Man Thinketh.”  Were you looking for a more profound answer?  Alright, they were all profoundly influenced by “As A Man Thinketh” as many thousands or millions have been.

Charlie Rose interviews Tony Robbins for a full hour. A very laid back Tony tells how he got his start with Jim Rohn an later started his own success company. He also talks of life, love, his divorce, a friendship with Donald Trump, and other aspects of his life and work.

Tony first came to national attention with his fire-walk seminars where normal people were challenged to walk across a bed of hot coals. The hot coals are a metaphor for anything you believe is impossible to you. Later his infomercials were a staple of late night TV and brought his “Personal Power” program to millions allowing them to tap into their higher potentials using Tony’s techniques.

Tony leads participants in his programs to understand every areas in their lives, what they really want, what they believe their limitations are, what their fears are. Then decide what needs to change – examine the reasons to change and not to change – the penalty if they don’t change. Create a condition of mind where change has to happen and they are motivated to do it and do it now. Then massive action.

Scrooge is appropriate to this site because it is the story of transformation. Tony Robbins used the Scrooge story in one of his elements of Personal Power as a model that you can use to affect change in your life.

Scrooge is a story of the transformation of an empty life into one that has meaning. If you are looking for a change this holiday — do for yourself as Scrooge was forced to do: look to your past to see from whence you’ve come; look to the present to see reality as it is; look to the future to see where this path will take you if played out. Then make your own choice to turn to your new path, to your new future.

The Bible says: “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That’s what happened for Scrooge and that’s what can happen in your life.

Personal power is the ability to take action.

Action where you are doing the job that you do is the place where everyone starts. Tony Robbins nailed it when he said, “the ability to take action.” Robbins also talks about taking “massive action.” Wallace D Wattles puts it like this:

Man can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

In order to do this, man must pass from the competitive to the creative mind; he must form a clear mental picture of the things he wants, and do, with faith and purpose, all that can be done each day, doing each separate thing in an efficient manner.

Wattles talks about efficient action and devotes chapter 12 to it. I have linked it here for you to listen to when you are ready.

Robbins also said, “Action is the foundational key to all success.” Vision and action, action and vision: it is important that you do the things you need to do in the place that you are while keeping your vision in mind.
