Does nothing feel engaging or entertaining? When you want to make sure you’re still in the right direction and you don’t want to settle for a mundane life, you’ll discover that you need to start challenging yourself. When you take on a challenge head first, you’re forcing yourself to grow.

When your self-esteem needs a boost, challenging yourself can help you see yourself in a new light. What Kind of Challenges Should I Pursue? No matter what type of challenge you undertake, don’t assume you’re going to get started on it “sometime soon.” Think about what steps you need to take to get there today. Whether it involves making some phone calls or getting some certifications, make some time to get it done as soon as possible.

If you have the desire to start a new career, call a career counselor for guidance or the local university for class schedules. If you challenge yourself to achieve better health, call a nutritionist or the local gym for rates and advice. * If you always wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument, call the music store to inquire about lessons or rental fees. Don’t delay when something is this important, but remember that moving slowly is much better than not moving at all.

When you want to make sure you’re achieving the results that you deserve, you’ll discover that choosing to move at all is a big step. Practice Setting Goals and Holding Yourself Accountable Another way you can start conquering small challenges is by setting some achievable goals. For instance, say you want to improve your writing skills. Then set yourself a goal to write at least a paragraph a day. It’s a simple, realistic goal that will help you improve your skills. It’s very likely that you will become more productive when you have a limited amount of time to accomplish your simple challenge. So if you only have 15 minutes to concentrate on your challenge, then make the best use of it and simply focus your energy on making it the most productive 15 minutes of your day.

Measure Your Progress Regularly In order to build your self-esteem, you regularly need to see how far you’ve come. Make sure you keep track of your progress on a regular basis. * Keep a diary that lists all you’ve accomplished in the day. * Keep a list of all books you read last month. * Keep a weight journal to track how many pounds you’ve lost. Over time, you’ll find that this is a great way to keep yourself moving forward. Looking at past progress is a great way to replicate your success, so keep note of how far you’ve come. The Power of Numbers If you’re struggling to challenge yourself, remember that you can get someone else to work with you. Do you have any goals that you and your loved ones share? If so, take some time and see if you can encourage each other.

This encouragement will help to build your self-esteem because you’ll see progress toward your goal. We must always strive for constant self-improvement. In doing so, we’ll see just how capable and competent we really are!

self acceptance

Self acceptance or self esteem is an essential quality that everyone should nurture. Unfortunately, for most of us, it has been damaged by those around us who love us most. Wrong words, abuse, a number of factors can strip a persons self esteem at a young age and it becomes difficult to bring back.

When you accept yourself with all of your flaws and unique talents, the world seems to become a more accommodating place. You’ll find that some of the causes of your stress disappear and you can gain more joy on a daily basis.

Accepting yourself completely entails courage, wisdom and compassion. If you’re plagued by negative emotions such as anxiety, jealousy, shame, anger, envy, or guilt, these may be signs of low self-esteem. To counter this, you can learn radical self-acceptance.

If you find yourself equating your worth with your achievements, love life or social status, what happens if these are someday diminished? After all, these are temporary conditions. Life has its ups and downs. Practicing self-acceptance will help prevent your self-worth from hinging on your current situation.

How Low Self-Esteem Can Hinder Self-Acceptance

If you have low self-esteem, you can get mired in refusal to accept your own uniqueness and capability for transformation. You may be a perfectionist, and when things don’t go well, you often tell yourself that you’re not good enough. It becomes a vicious cycle of negative self-fulfilling prophecies.

So what can you do to turn this around?

Suppose you start to appreciate the world around you. Then you’re aware of your place. You realize that just as others are important to your well-being, your existence supports others, too. Since appreciation is a prerequisite for self-esteem, you’re now well on your way to self-acceptance.

How to Develop Self-Acceptance

To develop self-acceptance, you must believe in your intrinsic worth and uniqueness. There’s no one else in the world quite like you and you’re constantly changing and developing. Your value cannot be measured by how others perceive you.

You’re also aware of the fallibility of human nature. No one is perfect. Even enlightened souls such as Christ and The Buddha had to struggle to achieve their goals. Likewise, you must also work to improve yourself. Let this be your joy.

When you make a mistake, refrain from judging yourself. Resist labeling yourself as a failure or a bad person because of past errors. You wouldn’t label your child a failure or a loser because he failed a test. Be compassionate with yourself too.

Accept Your Mistakes and Move On

When you review your mistakes, you may feel remorse and disappointment, but these are healthy reactions. They’ll help you to change your behavior to something you like better.

Remorse and disappointment are different from self-condemnation, which can lead to depression, guilt and shame. These unhealthy emotions may cause you to give up or avoid facing your mistakes. Instead, look toward what you can do to change your actions next time.

Try these strategies to increase your self-acceptance:

1. Avoid excusing yourself from your mistakes. It’s okay to tell yourself that you’re human and prone to error, but if you use this to refuse to face your mistakes, you won’t grow. Instead, work on improving yourself. This will help you accept what you did but put it in the past and move on.

2. Use positive self-talk. Refrain from calling yourself names like “idiot,” “total failure” or “loser.” Get in the habit of complimenting yourself instead. Reinforce the qualities about you that you like by telling yourself things like “I can do this,” “I’m good at this,” “Forgiving others is perfectly like me,” or “I can find a solution to this challenge.”

3. Be tolerant and compassionate with yourself, just as you are with your friends. Judge your behavior, not yourself.

Following these guidelines will help you gain greater self-acceptance. It may take some practice to master these new ways of thinking about yourself, but the rewards will be worth it. Soon you’ll be enjoying life more and find it more fulfilling than you ever imagined!

Learn to fully accept yourself. Develop a healthy self-esteem and it will benefit you in every area of life.

Self esteem (do you value and love yourself?) is a component of success. You don’t have to have self esteem to succeed but it helps you have faith in yourself and will help you keep moving forward when you have set a goal. Self esteem controls to some extent how you feel and if you are using visualization, whether for it’s own sake, or for the law of attraction, self esteem will help you create richer visualizations, visualizations that you can believe because you believe you are worthy of them.

How you value others affects your self esteem. You can’t just sit in front of a mirror like Stuart Smalley and say over and over, “I like me.” That’s not it, rather it is more holistic, it involves an appreciation for others, for pets, for the things that you have in your life now as well as for yourself. It’s been said that you need to love what you have in order to get what you love. That’s a strange statement but it is true and goes to the judge that sits in everyone’s head. More on the “judge” in a moment.

Always speak words that show that you care for yourself as well as others. The words coming from your mouth have great power in your mind and in the minds of others. The words are suggestions that plant themselves and are responsible for feelings and responses that you have no idea about. Just a thought there and something can trigger it. Sure you have a lot of control but sometimes these things come in under the radar. Your self-esteem will help you deal with these thoughts and emotions so be sure to speak words that always builds it.

As to speaking to others, your own ears hear these words as well. And while the speech may be directed towards someone else it goes into your mind as well. There is a great scripture that I believe has everything to do with this: “Judge not lest ye be judged” (Mathew 7:1) . Your own little judge is sitting in your head and if you apply harsh standards to those around you, your judge is listening and will apply the same standard to you. This can kill your self esteem so listen to your words and the thoughts in your head and seek moderation, seek to find the good, learn to look for how to make things better and what is already good about them.

So give yourself and everyone a break and don’t be so judgemental. Learn to build up with your words, learn to inspire, everyone deserves that and you deserve it too.

–Eleanor Roosevelt

Hold the vision of the life you want is a prime tenant of the Law of Attraction. This law of attraction process is also empowering and is a big part of Nancy Wylde’s life. Nancy writes about the women’s empowerment in a book called “Ticket To Freedom.” The book chronicles the authors transformational moments in moving from a life structured by other peoples ideas for her and how her life should be to a life of freedom – a life that she has created. Nancy compels all women (men too) to examine the beliefs they maybe living with and the effect of those beliefs on their lives. She explores self improvement technologies that she has employed to advance her life.

Nancy’s story in Ticket To Freedom is compelling and I asked her for an interview. It begins with her story and finishes with a discussion of methods that you (woman or man) can use to gain the empowerment you need.

The Empowerment of Women Interview

The book teaches anyone who reads it to build self-esteem and create a vision of and move toward the life you want. It’s a great read.

Nancy’s mission is to empower women and this is not to disparage men but rather she has seen the life of a single mother raising children. She is from Australia where not so long ago a woman left alone with children may well have meant that they had just all received a death sentence because of the harshness of the countryside.
