There’s Only One Person Who Can Help You

Napoleon Hill writes of a man who came to see him one day. The man’s business had failed and he left his family because he couldn’t take care of them.

The man was unkempt, but the day before he had been given one of Hill’s pamphlets and now the man had come to Hill’s office seeking help.

Hill told him that he was sorry that he could not help, but that there was a man in the building who could help and Hill would introduce the man.

Hill led the man into the next room and stood him before a curtain. When Hill pulled the curtain back the man was looking in the mirror. Hill explained that this was the only man on earth who could help and there he was in the mirror. Hill goes on to tell of the mans later success (“Hills Golden Rules“).

Self Reliance

Poor Richards Almanac put it this way: “God helps them that help themselves.” The great Emerson wrote: “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”

And so it is with all of us. This is not to say that a hand up does not help from time to time but – any real forward movement lies in our own hands, our own actions, in our own mind as Emerson said, “self reliance“.

What keeps a person from doing the things he or she knows to do? What keeps a person from moving forward?

That question usually comes down to 1. beliefs, there is a belief that the thing is impossible, OK for someone else but impossible for me; and 2. lack of a compelling reason – there is no vision or purpose to pull you forward nor is there a sufficient monster coming up from behind to force you to move.

So most of us just sit there. Jim Rohn (or is it Les Brown?) talks about an old dog lying on a nail poking up out of the wood floor of the front porch. The dog is whining but just lays there. The nail is annoying but just doesn’t hurt enough to get the dog to move.

Greet The Future Each Morning

What reasons do you have to move forward with your dreams and plans? What compelling vision of success can you make so you can see the outcome of those plans, a vision so compelling that you are drawn happily into the future?

“See the vision and make it plain on tables that he may run who reads it…” That’s how the Bible puts it in the book of Habakkuk, it’s a little different context, but the idea is the same.

Write down your vision of the future, nurture that vision until you take off running towards it everyday. You see your mind is the only thing that will get you off your ass.

You can’t beat yourself into doing anything that is truly worthwhile. But a compelling vision that you repeat to yourself, consistently and often enough, is a vision that you will come to believe. It’s a vision that will shine a light on how you are going to accomplish it. It’s a vision that will cause you to jump out of bed everyday and run to greet it.

There are many paths to learn greet the future this way – using the law of attraction and creating a compelling vision. You can learn more about a compelling future in The Science of Getting Rich Program: www.TheRealMikeGriffin.com/sgr/

A wonderful quote from Neville Goddard sums up how important visualization and your imagination is in the change process. To attempt to change circumstances. … As you are inside the goal adjust the qualities of the picture, sounds and the feelings in order to make the goal the most real and compelling for you. – Imagine stepping out of the picture but leave your body in the picture, as if you are looking at a Polaroid snapshot of you attaining the goal. …

We hear it so often: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…” That quote from Charles Dickens is almost cliche, but what a great observation. It’s an observation that is always true. The thing is you can flick the switch on which it is, best or worst, just by your focus.

In a magic show the illusionist keeps your focus on one hand while he is making something else seem to disappear with the other. In life if you are so focused on the sadness then your happiness will seem to disappear. Is there a magician that you are allowing to control your focus? Who or what would you give such power to?

It’s time for a musical interlude with Barbra Mandrell.

“Sittin’ on the front porch the rain is pourin’ down, news comes on the radio there’s trouble all around, but that’s the way it’s always been and the way it will always be…” –Barbra Mandrell In Times Like These.

The lyrics have it down like Dickens… it’s the way it’s always been and the way it will always be… It’s the best and the worst.

A lot of people are getting rich, a lot of people are happy, a lot of people are making plans, a lot are moving their lives forward. It doesn’t matter what the times are, just look to the things you want to do and start moving, start taking action. Get your focus off whats wrong and on to what you are going to do next. See it’s good outcome.

Don’t let the magician keep you focused on something else while he hides your happiness. Keep your eyes on your happiness… Can you see it?

In Times Like These, indeed.
