BILL MOYERS: Do you ever have the sense of… being helped by hidden hands?

JOSEPH CAMPBELL: All the time. It is miraculous. I even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time – namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.

That quote from The Joseph Campbell Foundation is remarkable.  It says to me that God put an inner compass in each of us and that compass is bliss.

In The Secret, In The Science of Getting Rich, and anywhere that the Law of Attraction is discussed they speak of gratitude and getting your emotions involved in the vision you create.  They are all speaking of bliss though not quite as eloquently as Joseph Campbell.  You should have joy in your life… you know your whole life long, it whatever it is you are doing, you are seeking happiness.  Sometimes what we perceive in our conscious mind as happiness is warped from what our inner compass says, yet we are seeking happiness.

The trick is to move past those screams of consciousness and listen to the bliss within.  The bliss is our compass in life and it is not deflected by the magnetizing affects of the world around us.  If we bring a compass near a magnet it will no longer point North.  Our bliss is the joy within and it always points to our true North we need only follow it.

Here are three ideas to help your understanding:

1. Visualize your outcome. This could be a thing or the way you’d like a situation to turn out. See it in as much detail as you can. For example if you want a new car sit in it, hear the sound of the tight fitting doors closing, smell the leather of the interior, hear the rich bass from the radio. As you drive feel the acceleration. You get the idea, make as much detail as you can.
2. Give thanks that you have received the object of step one. Feel a deep gratitude and realize that it is yours. Wallace Wattles, in The Science of Getting Rich, says: “by thought the thing is created, by action you receive.” And this brings us to step 3.
3. By action you receive: as you go through your day let the memory of your visualization come into mind, no need for continued meditation, but just let the thought pass through. Soon you’ll also be getting thoughts about the actions you need to take. When these thoughts come take the action, don’t be timid, take the action with confidence.
