The Science of Getting Rich is a book written over 100 years ago by a man named Wallace Wattles. In it Wattles lays out the concepts of what we know today as the law of attraction. It is a way of acting, living, and thinking that is guaranteed to create wealth in your life. In spite of the clearly defined principles in the book many have a difficult time putting it all to use.

The law of attraction is a simple concept but it requires a mindset that many find difficult to establish and maintain. What if you had a way to make the practice instinctive, to make it a part of yourself so that you automatically live it by embedding it in such a way that you don’t have to think about it? The Science of Getting Rich was written in 1910 and is a discourse on the law of attraction. The Science of Getting Rich never uses the words “Law Of Attraction, Wattles sets out a means of developing wealth and getting rich. You must accept as true that you have already recieved the thing that you are picturing. You must imagine that you are already in that economic position, living as you want, on your terms. Your vision should be sensory rich if it is to be successful. In essence, “it is faith and purpose in the use of the imagination which make the difference between the scientist and the idealist. And having learned this reality, it is here that you must learn the right use of the Will.”

Wattles wanted to explain to men the accurate use of the will. Man should not use other folks to build his own riches but rather live in a certain way that can’t help but assemble wealth. He also believed that poverty could be wiped out if others’ became wealthy. Then they could encourage others to do the same. In getting rich there is an obligation created that you should teach others to do the same. Wealth establishment is not wealth redistribution. Man makes his own wealth by visualization, belief in skills, setting objectives, and gratefulness.

To further his operation of man’s will in a helpful way, Wattles insisted the significance of growing rich through a creative method, not a competitive one. Pay attention to your own growth and nothing else. Or else you establish yourself up for failure. Remember, ” Thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.”By this, give attention entirely to growing rich. Focus on what you do have, not what you do not.

Being rich and acting rich are not always go hand in hand. Nor should they. There is a theory which Wallace D. Wattles wrote in his book, The Science of Getting Rich in 1910 and explained that in order to get rich you must live a certain way.

His belief was simply that you could get rich by believing you were rich in the present moment. In every action, you must express the sense of assurance that you are getting rich to others. According to Wattles, “Words will not be necessary to communicate this feeling to others; they will feel the sense of increase when in your presence, and will be attracted to you again.” Through your tone and personal understanding that you are already rich is enough to convey this message. If you already believe that you are rich, others will receive that feeling.

Once you have conveyed the message that you are rich, others will also believe that they, in turn, can become rich as well. So, Wattles believed that “you [should] give them a use value greater than the cash value you are taking from them.” In as sense, they will inherently understand the concept of increase. Knowledge they can use for themselves, then give to others to become rich as well.

Living a certain way will bring you riches. By spreading your knowledge, you give others the opportunity and feeling of increase. They will go where they need to go to make this a reality for them. This will also bring you benefits you never expected. For example, take this principle and apply it to your business. If you behave as though you are already rich, you set forth a certain persona which people will be attracted to. They will seek repeated seek you out. Further, your contributions will benefit you and others as well.

Throughout your daily activities, it is important to consistently visualize your vision of what you want and your purpose in life.

The Advancing Man

The Advancing Man is the man who lives a certain way. According to Wallace D. Wattles, author of The Science of Getting Rich (1910), the Advancing Man constantly strives to improve his place in life. Whether a man is a professional or a wage earner, he will get rich as long as he applies the same principles to his life.

Wattles believed that man inherently wants more in his life. In order to live a fulfilled life, man must be able to afford that life. Therefore, man must have the money to pay for the instruments that enable to reach the desired lifestyle.

According to Wattles, the Advancing Man gives increase to another’s life. In turn, they will be attracted to him. Therefore, he will get rich. He offered an example of the physician who holds the vision of himself as a great and successful healer. When a physician works and focuses on his vision to heal his patients, they return to him. He has found his purpose and he actively heals his patients.

The vocation is not relevant here. If he can give increase of life to others and give awareness to them, they will become attracted to him When man follows the principles of the certain way: faith, visualization of his goal, and gratitude, he will get rich. However, man must also accompany these principles with personal actions. Otherwise, these steps will simply be futile. Action is required on the part of man. In order for him to become rich, he must exercise what he envisions for himself. As a physician, clergyman, scientist, whatever he sees as his purpose, he must act in that fashion.

The Advancing Man is Advancing Thought into his reality.  As he continues to make his life better, he sets an example to others. He shows them how they can also become rich through his actions. He becomes a living inspiration to others, so they will follow him. They will be attracted to him. Therefore, the Advancing Man will never lack for a following.

We always see signs that tells us to “ACT NOW”, “now is your chance to save 20%,” and so many other such advertisements which invade our society. Failing to act now is considered risky. We could miss out on a great opportunity. Well, Wallace D. Wattles wrote in his book, The Science of Getting Richer about the need to act in the moment. How could you expect to ever get rich if you did not act upon your desire to be rich? It was one thing to want it, but an entirely different matter to actually act upon your vision.

Wattles believed that man must act and behave in a certain way to become rich. First he must gain a mental image of being rich, hold it consistently, and detail it to the fullest. However, just visualizing it will only remain a thought. Without personal action, nothing will come of it. Man must take action and perform in accordance with the idea of being rich. In SGR, Wattles used many examples pertaining to business that illustrated his point about immediate action. He stated that if one “engaged in some business, and feel that it is not the right, …, do not wait …to get into the right business before you begin to act.”

He understood man well. While it seems so obvious that time is on its own schedule we still try to control the hands. We focus on the past and worry about the future. He wisely stated that man “cannot act in the past, and it is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that you dismiss the past from your mind. You cannot act in the future, for the future is not here yet. And you cannot tell how you will want to act in any future contingency until that contingency has arrived.”

Believing in your mental image that you know what you want and that you are taking action is the key to becoming rich. Wattles stated that even if you are in an uncomfortable situation, yet are doing everything in your power to move toward your goal, then given time you will reach your purpose. You just must remain steadfast and on course. Keep your purpose fixed and your mental image in tact. While you may feel discouraged because you are not in the right business, remember what want and keep clear of any distractions that may cloud your fixed purpose. The universe will respond in kind.

Everyone wants to be rich. This is no secret. The secret is how to get there. That is the six million dollar question. In 1910, Wallace D. Wattles wrote a book, The Secret of Getting Rich that received a great deal of attention. He believed that “By thought, the thing you want is brought to you. By action, you receive it.”

In his book, Wattles wrote that man is inherently positioned to seek and attain more. It is in our nature to do so; otherwise we will cease to exist. We want to experience all the pleasures of life. We seek more food, clothes, shelter, luxury, knowledge, and simply increase as much as we desire in life.

Often, the desire to seek wealth is looked upon as an act of greed. Wattles held a somewhat different perspective. In following suit, As Wattles states, “normal desire for increased wealth is not an evil or a reprehensible thing; it is simply the desire for more abundant life; it is aspiration.”

Though it is extremely vital to be clear on what we desire, it is also important to live a certain way. According to Wattles, you will not get rich unless you live a certain way which basically means your actions must pertain to your desires/goals.

When you begin to behave in a creative way, you begin to increase your wealth not only for yourself but others you interact with as well. Instinctively, we are attracted to those “who can give them more of the means of life.”

Additionally, every interaction, no matter how great or small needs a nudge. You must place a seed, a sense of increase in their mind. It doesn’t matter if the interaction was social or business. The important thing to note is that the person leaves with an impression of increase.

Everyday, carry the feeling of advancement in everything you do. Others will receive your impression through their interactions with you. Continue to incorporate your impression through every action as you live a certain way.

With ever passing generation, there are movements to equalize the socioeconomic gaps that define our society. During the early 1900s, Wallace D. Wattles published a book, The Science of Getting Rich based on his own findings.

He began to use the idea of creative visualization in which he would form a mental picture and work toward the realization of his vision. Before he would publish his books, he would practice his techniques on himself to make sure they were successful. After several experimentations and constant writing, he saw himself as “an advancing man, and he began to work toward the realization of this vision.” This was his mental picture. The “advancing man” would soon become part of The Secret of Getting Rich.

The Science of Getting Rich is based upon what Wattles called living a “Certain Way.” Essentially, man will become rich if he lives a certain way. But, he must follow the rules exactly. The origin of a “certain way” came from a “mental healing” movement during the 1850s. A man, Phineas P. Quimby had suffered from some physical ailments and found relief through Wattle’s philosophy. Now, people were questioning if the same techniques could be applied to their desires (money, happiness, a bigger home, better health, etc.). This led to Wattle’s creation of “Quimbian” healing strategies to financial and physiological situations.

According to Wattles, man will become rich if he adheres to thinking in a certain way. He explained in depth how living a certain way brings wealth and abundance through positive thoughts. In essence, “Man can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.” In his experience, the combination of putting forth the needed effort, visualization, believing in one’s ability, defining goals, and constant gratitude all lead to becoming rich.

While his approach was revolutionary, he wanted to be clear that it was secular in nature. So, he added “science” for clarification. He wrote about prosperity in life, business, mind strategies, the material and spiritual world. Living in a certain way was intended to create a sense of positive thinking, a shift in way we process information, view our world, and react to it.

Therefore, Wattles explains, “Man’s right to life means his right to have the free and unrestricted use of all the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual, and physical unfoldment; or, in other words, his right to be rich.”

“Living In A Certain Way” Core to The Science of Getting Rich

According to Wattles, man can only become rich if he lives a certain way. If he is rich, only then can he life to its fullest. Only having plenty of money gives a man possibility to achieve his highest potential and talent. His spirit can only reach its highest development when man can afford it. For either to occur, man must utilize many instruments during the process. Money is the means to success in all man’s desires.

In this world, there is no man who is incapable of getting rich. Man always wants more than he already owns. In our extremely complicated world, the average person needs a great deal of wealth live in luxury and reach a sense of fulfillment.

In human nature, we all have inherent notions of wanting to be more. We measure success by their monetary worth and how they reached their pillar of success. The important thing to note is that becoming rich relies what resources you use to become rich. You must buy them so that you can use them as your own. This means you are rich enough to do so. As Wattles illustrates, “To understand the science of getting rich is therefore the most essential of all knowledge.”
